Jalan Alor ultimately acquires its distinctive character through a strong sense of duality such as social dimensions of global and local populations; tourists and vendors that create formal and informal activities, landlords and homeless and public and private territories.
Jalan Alor is a unique food destination in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. During the day, there is not much activity but when the sun goes down, the street will be hustling and bustling with food stalls lining up along the street.

Centre of Garden Culture is designed based on issues addressed surrounding Jalan Alor which are homelessness and food wastage. The Centre of Garden Culture unveiled a concept of integrating micro housing for homeless and urban farming educational activities. The architecture is designed for Jalan Alor specifically.
The centre provides a realizable solution and knowledge to many pressing problems faced by many of the world’s growing city.
In Malaysia, food wastage is a growing problem where authorities and non- governmental organisations are working on to address the issue. The situation is aggravated as more food stalls mushroom and people end up buying more food than they can possibly eat. However, it is very in contrast to seeing homeless people hanging around the city in hunger and poverty. The issue of homelessness in the country isn’t new, but the growing numbers signify a bigger problem. In a survey conducted by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur) last year, the number of homeless people in the city has seen a significant increase. “The homeless are the invisible people of the city because we often dismiss or ignore them. What we want the public to know is that everyone has a story, including the homeless.”
Therefore, the centre of Garden Culture is to aware the society to what we are facing and what can be done as a future culture change to create a better growing city.

Circulation in and out of the building is analysed to engage people with the building. The circulation is derived in conjunction with the site existing circulation that includes : vehicle, delivery and pedestrian. These paths are connected and linked into the building internal circulation in connecting people especially at street level. Derived by the way people move through and interact with a building.
Circulation of the internal spaces are designed to connect people vertically and horizontally through permeability of design and selection of material & structures. Circulation through the spaces are also categorised as horizontal circulation, such as corridors, and those facilitating vertical circulation, such as stairs and ramps which allow physical connectivity at different levels.
